Your Impact in This Role
As a Mechanical Technician, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on technical installations to ensure optimal operation and minimize downtime.
- Replace, repair, renew, and improve mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components.
- Interpret technical documentation such as process diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, and construction plans.
- Use the Mendix IT system to report malfunctions and suggest improvements.
- Analyze root causes of mechanical issues and prepare maintenance work using appropriate tools, spare parts, and procedures.
- Perform mechanical tasks such as assembling, disassembling, welding, grinding, and sheet metal work.
- Assist external technicians with machine installations, adjustments, and site navigation.
- Support production operators in resolving mechanical issues to resume operations quickly.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including Sibelco’s life-saving rules and the LOTOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out) principle.
- Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools according to safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits, improvements, and reporting of safety concerns.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams such as production, electrical, and maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the team leader or supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and diagrams.
- Skilled in welding, grinding, and other mechanical repair techniques.
- Familiarity with lifting and hoisting techniques.
- Forklift certification required.
Behavioral Skills:
- Open-minded and proactive.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and motivation to support continuous improvement.
Education & Experience:
- A2 Mechanics diploma or equivalent experience.
- Practical experience in mineral processing or similar industrial environments is preferred.
Language Requirements:
- Ability to read and understand technical English.
- Additional languages are an asset.
Required Physical Abilities
- Mobility: bending, standing, walking, sitting, climbing.
- Manual Dexterity: lifting/carrying, reaching, grasping, repetitive movements.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to dusty and noisy environments.
