PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $215,000 per year to $230,000 per year.

This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU and serves at the pleasure of the President.

The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. This position may be eligible to participate in the Cal State East Bay hybrid telecommute program subject to management approval.

Cal State East Bay's beautiful main campus is located in the Hayward hills with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay shoreline. About the Position

The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences houses approximately 17 academic departments (with more than 30-degree programs) and serves over 3,100 undergraduates and 560 graduate students. The College employs approximately 290 faculty (tenure, tenure track and lecturers) and 30 staff members with an operational budget of $18 million. Working with Department Chairs, the Dean provides an overall vision for the college; hires and supports faculty; builds and maintains quality academic programs; leads facilities planning for the college; manages the enrollment; engages in alumni relationships and leads the philanthropic work in the college; and has overall fiscal responsibility for the college budget.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and University Leadership:

  • Lead the Chair Counsel and Associate Dean to implement the college’s mission.
  • Oversee the college’s strategic plan in alignment with the university plan.
  • Oversee academic program planning and review in the college.
  • Provide university-wide leadership in the Academic Affairs Leadership Team.
  • Budget, planning, reviewing curricula, determining college policies.
  • Serve in leadership roles on university-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Work with mid-level managers from across campus to collaboratively solve problems.
  • Develop and implement college-wide initiatives to support student equity and success.
  • Lead the college Chairs Council.

Academic Programs, Student Success and Resource Management:

  • Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality academic programs that meet relevant accreditation standards.
  • Ensure effective management of the college’s budget, resources, and facilities.
  • Lead college in delivering effective, efficient annual course schedules.
  • Explore opportunities for competitive new degree programs in the field.
  • Develop and implement an annual budget for the college.
  • Make personnel and operational budget allocations to departments.
  • Assign and monitor FTES and SFR targets for departments.
  • Supervise the Budget Analyst in the tracking and projecting of all expenses in the college.

External Relations and Engagement:

  • Lead fundraising efforts in the college with support from the Development Officers.
  • Plan and participate in events that engage college alumni.
