Position Description

The mission of the Anoka County Finance department is to enrich our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. The department has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant who will perform various duties, including the maintenance of financial and business transactions and applying accounting principles. This will include work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of February 3rd, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

• Salary: $70,012 to $84,011 ($33.66 to $40.39 per hour).
• 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $70,012 to $98,009 ($33.66 to $47.12 per hour).

Work Location

• This position will work between the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN, 55303, and the Anoka County Highway Building, 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304.
• This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
• Expected work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles, that include work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice.
• Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
• Prepare, understand, and review financial reports and present results to leadership.
• Advise leadership on developing and submitting financial budgets.
• Establish the budget model to account for changes in the budget process. Analyze budget trends and propose adjustments.
• Analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
• Utilize knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, which often entails some understanding of related fields, such as business law, statistics, and general management.
• Analyze the effects of transactions upon account relationships.
• Understand & collaborate on how account structures should be developed or modified.
• Ensure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Consider the need for new or changed controls.
• Project accounting data to show the effects of proposed plans on capital investments, income, cash position, and overall financial condition.
• Interpret the meaning of accounting records, reports, and statements.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
• In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basi
