POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director, Payroll of North America will provide strategic leadership and direction to the US (excluding Framestore) and Canadian payroll teams. The role will be responsible for a staff of 8 across 3 teams. The companies operate with several payroll providers and this role will be responsible for the provider relationship on behalf of the companies. The role will provide expert advice to the business on payroll issues in North America.

The role will work with Finance, Human Resources, Benefits and Tax teams to provide senior management within Framestore and Co3 payroll information and analysis to support the business needs. The role will ensure that each company meets their statutory, legal and tax requirements in the jurisdictions covering the locations of the staff.

The role will have responsibility for ensuring that where time and attendance recording is required that the applicable systems are managed and the accuracy of the information from said systems are used correctly to calculate pay.

The role will review and develop payroll processes for the UKG North American payroll system.

MAIN DUTIES:
The Director, Payroll will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll in accordance with company and country regulations and laws, as well as ensure the companies comply with all regulatory and legal payroll requirements. They are responsible for:
  • Ensuring that all payroll accounting entries are accurate and in accordance with company regulations
  • Ensuring that all payroll year end activities are completed in line with country regulations
  • Ensuring the responsibilities for the payroll process are understood and managed by teams’ cross company responsible for the elements of the payroll process
  • Supporting payrolls of 2900+ staff (salaried and weekly paid)

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience working directly with the full cycle payroll and benefits administration. They will have experience with leading a multi country payroll process, as well as experience with the implementation of payroll systems and HR and Finance systems. They will possess both Canadian Payroll Association accreditation, and Certified Payroll Professional certificate (CPP) - American Payroll Association. Additional desired skills include:
  • Excellent client/stakeholder relationship skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and managerial skills, including managing of remote staff
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Knowledge of UKG PRO payroll system
  • Knowledge of UKG WFM time and attendance system
  • Strong Excel skills including vlookup and pivot tables
  • Strong report writing and data analysis skills
  • Experience of D365 HR systems
  • Bilingual (French and English, written and verbal) nice to have
Canadian Experience
  • Knowledge of Canadian provincial payroll laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of CNESST, WSIB and WorksafeBC processes (these items are HR based in the US, so I want to make sure they are not HR responsibilities in Canada)
  • T4 and related processes
US Experience
  • IRS and state regulations including FLSA
  • IRS and state payroll tax returns
