Description
Objective
The Accounting Manager utilizes their accounting knowledge and expertise to ensure accurate and timely close and financial reporting to internal and external business partners. This role oversees the day-to-day processes within the Accounting Department and serves as main point of contact on projects as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
- Review the journal entries and account reconciliations of Senior and Staff Accountants and others to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Actively work to identify and solve accounting discrepancies, including research and documentation of balance sheet and income statement fluctuations.
- Serve as a technical resource for Senior and Staff Accountants and the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Teams, and others within the organization.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts for more complex or key accounts and resolve reconciling items.
- Work with outside accounting firms in the preparation, filing, and payment of certain taxes for all applicable jurisdictions.
- Create, improve, and maintain internal controls and organizational processes both within and external to the accounting department.
- Work closely with the Controller, VP Finance, and other accounting team members to ensure accurate and timely close and reporting to internal and external business partners
- Year-end preparation and review of financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Support the fulfillment of audit requests from external audit firms, and act as a primary point of contact for financial areas of responsibility.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the general ledger, cost center, and department structure.
- Perform Month- and year-end closing responsibilities including preparation of reconciliations and journal entries, and review as needed.
- Develop and mentor accounting team to build their professional expertise and maximize potential.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ad hoc research of technical accounting questions and issues.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Strong understanding and experience in cost accounting and inventory.
- 6+ years accounting experience, inventory and/or manufacturing industry experience a plus.
- 3+ years management experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
- CPA License highly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, preferred.
- Ability to problem-solve, self-start, and work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization, deductive reasoning, and attention to detail.
- Continuous-improvement mindset.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting and perform tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Knowledge of SAP Business One/Orchestrated Beer a plus.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Must have the physical and mental strength and endurance to be able to perform duties, in at times extreme environments, as well as the ability to handle stressors of the position in operational and administrative situations. Required to occasionally lift and move 10 - 25 pounds. Expected to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, talk, hear, taste, smell, see, and operate objects, tools, and controls.
