Analytics at Wharton (AAW) unites The Wharton School’s trail-blazing teaching, research, and industry engagement initiatives that use data to improve decision-making and generate actionable insights. AAW brings together seven programs at the School and supports new ideas and opportunities to expand the impact of big data analytics on research, curriculum, and industry and alumni engagement. 

Job Description

The Senior Research Project Manager will work with the Director of Data Computing and Research Support and affiliated faculty to advance the goals of Analytics at Wharton's experiential learning and academic research agenda.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level project and relationship management support for 20+ research projects simultaneously by coordinating with internal stakeholders (e.g. Wharton and Penn faculty, students, and Wharton/Penn departments) and external partners (e.g. corporations, foundations, government entities and the global academic and business community). 

  • Support the development of research projects from inception to completion by providing strategic project management including: assist in the development of research proposals, negotiate and prepare data agreements, prepare IRB/regulatory requirements, delegate and manage tasks and project deliverables, provide documentation and reports to funders; develop and monitor project budgets; and partner with external organizations to operationalize studies. 

  • Work with the Director and senior leaders within AAW to assign projects to staff and students on a per-project basis. Provide training and feedback as needed to support research projects. 

  • Coordinate technical infrastructure and data management of research projects including working with external partners to extract data sets, coordinate preliminary analysis of datasets, and develop robust database environment that supports strategic goals of research projects. 

  • Oversee bids, contracts, and workflow for freelance positions including but not limited to software developers, survey research firms, and annotation services as needed. 

  • Manage faculty research grants including writing grant proposals and reports. Oversee grant administration and accounting in coordination with AAW staff and Wharton Finance & Administration using various technology platforms.
