I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Ensures that files are maintained in a timely and orderly fashion for purchase orders, invoices and other pertinent accounts payable documents/data to provide control, ensure accuracy, avoid duplication, and enable issuance of accurate 1099 tax documents.
2. Schedules check runs and other disbursements; assists with monitoring cash flow; generates monthly and periodic reports.
3. Issues demand check runs as required.
4. Researches and resolves problems, issues and questions.
5. Coordinates monthly and annual accounts payable closing processes; reconciles accounts payable feeds to the general ledger.
6. Serves as liaison between Accounts Payable and Materials Management.
7. Coordinates monthly and year-end accrual process in conjunction with General Accounting.
8. Plans and coordinates the preparation of Accounts Payable information for audits by public accounting firm and other regulatory agencies.
9. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training.  Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.  Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
10. Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
11. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
12. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
13. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
14. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
15. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
16. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc.  Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
17. Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
18. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
19. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
20. Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
21. Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business.  

Three to five years’ technical experience in accounts payable or finance, including supervisory skills.  Strong verbal, written, and communication skills, as well as computer proficiency. 

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed  in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
