Amazon is seeking an experienced and detail oriented Industrial Designer. This individual will deep-dive and challenge current processes, equipment, and procedures, in our Emerging Market (ECCF) fulfillment network, in order to come up with creative and implementable process improvement initiatives. This individual will also concept and design development of new and existing fulfillment center layouts.
A successful candidate will have an established background in developing high-performance physical systems, a strong technical problem solving ability, excellent project management skills, and an internal motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. A day in the life
A Day in the Life of a Design Engineer involves working with both internal and external teams. Internally, the Industrial Designer will work with operations to understand initiatives and then present solutions to them. Along the way, working with other teams to understand and validate the design for safety, maintainability, and functionally. In the background, the engineer will be working directly with the MHE integrator and storage vendor to manage the project during the design.

Firm Engineering for Initiatives, Retrofits & Emerging Countries (FIRE) is part of the Global Engineering & Security Services (GESS) team. We are responsible for Firm Engineering MHE retrofit projects with MHE vendors and providing engineered solutions to Operations Engineering for installation. We work closely with many internal and external teams to develop MHE solutions, which allows us to deliver a variety of solutions. Our internal stakeholders include: Operations, WW Engineering, Finance, Safety, ACES, RME, and Operations Engineering.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the design and development of engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges considering human/equipment interactions for the Australia fulfillment network
- Lead and coordinate concept and design development efforts for optimal solutions for the ECCF fulfillment network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and site layout
- Work closely with vendors, suppliers and other teams to create innovative solutions
- Simultaneously manage multiple high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects
- Conduct post mortem on designs after implementation in partnering with Safety and
- Build strong relationships with partner organizations within the company such as Start-up, Launch team, Worldwide Design team, Construction, Procurement, Information Technology, Loss Prevention, Facilities, Safety, Change Management, PMO and Operations
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including domestic and international, to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering or related STEM field is required.
- 3+ years of experience in Design/Innovation, Research & Development, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience with complex MHE and packaging lines or process design based on Lean Manufacturing or Toyota Manufacturing System
- Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
- Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, Master’s Degree or other advanced degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering, Operations, Business Administration or related field and at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty
- 1+ year experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D
- Proficiency in running SQL queries and data mining
- Experience in engineering and estimating material handling and storage systems<
