Reporting to the Enterprise Project Manager, the Strategic Project Manager plays a key role in advancing select initiatives aligned with the APUS Global Strategy. This position is responsible for managing project plans, tracking progress, and ensuring effective coordination across departments to support successful project execution from initiation through completion.
The Strategic Project Manager will regularly collaborate with stakeholders at the AVP and VP levels, requiring strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build relationships across a complex organization. This role calls for someone who is organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently while staying closely aligned with broader strategic goals and timelines.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and committed to fostering a collaborative, service-minded, and results-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of University-wide projects aligned with APUS Global strategic goals by maintaining detailed project plans, tracking timelines and success metrics, and preparing regular updates and executive-level summaries.
- Serve as a key user and champion of Asana for project planning, execution, and reporting; update project tasks and statuses regularly to ensure accurate reporting and transparency for leadership and support adoption across stakeholder groups.
- Partner with functional leaders, including AVPs and VPs, to maintain alignment, foster collaboration, and support engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate clear and consistent communication across cross-functional teams, to ensure shared understanding of project goals, progress, and deliverables.
- Proactively identify and track project risks, resource gaps, and interdependencies; escalate challenges appropriately with thoughtful, solution-oriented recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of management standards, tools, and templates to promote consistency, scalability and efficiency.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated success in project management across cross-functional teams and organizational levels.
- Proficiency in project planning tools; experience with Asana or similar platforms preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Experience working with operational teams (e.g., Admissions, Advising) is preferred.
- Understanding of best practices in higher education or similarly complex regulatory environments is preferred.
- Experience successfully navigating shared services to support project and team needs is preferred.
Education:
- Bachelors degree required
