About the role

 

 

Position Description

 

Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Net Zero Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB built, owns, and operates the publicly available Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network on the island of Ireland. ESB plans to significantly grow the capacity of the Irish EV charging network with already over seven hundred sites across Ireland and it’s expanding network in Britain. Currently over 270 HPC, Rapid and AC charging stations installed and operational across London, Coventry, and Birmingham with a continual pipeline of additional sites expected to come online. ESB’s strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport, is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network.

ESB ecars Operations team is responsible for managing the performance and availability of ESB’s EV Networks in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain from performance management and reporting to fault and complaint analysis, management of preventative and corrective maintenance programs and supporting the expansion and upgrade of ESB’s EV Networks. Reporting to the Head of Asset Management the function has an internal team of staff with support from contractors and service providers.

 

The role will be in assisting the development, and implementation of efficient and reliable charging network. Working closely with the asset management team members to contribute to charging infrastructure network reliability and other projects. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of electric vehicle charging systems and work alongside experienced professionals.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Safety: Consider and ensure high standards are applied with respect to equipment, staff, contractor, and public safety. Carry out safety audits on sites and active contactors.
  • Quality: Consider and ensure high standards are applied with respect to site conditions, equipment and contractor work. Carry out quality audits on sites and active contactors.
  • Customer Focus: Continually strive to ensure that the ESB ecars infrastructure operates in a safe, reliable, and customer-friendly manner. Monitor and promptly address any issues affecting the EV charging infrastructure network.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively within ESB Ecars and other cross-functional teams to ensure a strong customer focus is maintained and to ensure project delivery & performance as well as risk management.
  • Telecommunications: Identify, investigate and resolve communications issues when they arrive.
  • Network Performance Investigations: Investigate issues arising out of issues flagged from analysis of performance issues
  • Conduct technical assessments and due diligence: On potential suppliers to ensure their capabilities, quality standards, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Field Testing: Conduct troubleshooting of charging equipment to assess their address performance and reliability.
  • Process and Procedure Developments: To continuously review current practices with a view to improve the processes and procedures based on the feedback and analysis carried out.
  • Assist in managing project documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports.
  • Technical Knowledge & Development: Research and gather relevant technical information on DC charging technologies, standards, and best practices to support project activities.
  • Support: Assist Senior Charging Engineer and asset management team ensuring high performance of the ESB EV charging networks from both the hardware and software components of such equipment.

 

 

Experience & Qualifications 

 

Essential

 

  • Degree level qualification in electrical, electronic or telecommunications engineering and experience in IT systems or equivalent with experience relevant to this position.
  • Proven experience (4+ years) in DC charging systems for electric vehicles.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical power systems, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of DC charging technologies, including CCS (Combined Charging System) and CHAdeMO
  • Experience working with Electric Vehicles and Electric Vehicles DC charging equipment
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a high degree of self-direction.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Full Clean Drivers Licence
