Weekly Hours: 20 hours

Purpose

Provide administrative support to the RTX program coordinators to develop experiential learning opportunities for students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the RTX program coordinators

  • Assist with planning program activities

  • Become versed in undergraduate research training, such as the Entering Mentoring curriculum

  • Coordinate Research Rotations, which involves contacting research groups in the JSG and coordinating the virtual or in-person attendance of trainees in group meetings.

  • Plan and run workshops for trainees on research skills and personal development.

  • Coordinate and moderate panels and informational sessions on graduate school, internships and careers in geoscience.

  • Help plan half-day field trips in the central Texas region, within 1-2 hours of Austin. Geology knowledge not needed. Ability to drive JSG vehicles is desired.

  • Assist with scheduling RTX events and maintain an up-to-date schedule online.

  • Be a trusted resource for trainees to express concerns to and ask questions of.

  • Manage a Google Drive and help organize a Canvas course.

  • Plan and run social events such as game nights, movie nights and trivia competitions.

Required Qualifications

Experience in Geoscience or STEM research. Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with students. Exceptional organizational skills, including time management and managing multiple deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members. Experience planning and implementing events.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with REU programs. Familiarity with UT Austin policies and systems. Ability to drive UT vehicles.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$36,180+ depending on qualifications
