Job Summary:
The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the Nurse Residency Program. This role supports the successful transition of new graduate nurses into professional practice by promoting clinical competence, professional development, and integration of evidence-based practice (EBP).
The Coordinator ensures a structured learning environment aligned with organizational goals, accreditation standards, and professional practice models, while supporting nurse retention, engagement, and quality outcomes. The role also contributes to broader clinical education initiatives that reflect organizational priorities and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Job Description:
- Coordinates and oversees all aspects of the Nurse Residency Program, including planning, scheduling, and execution of activities
- Manages program logistics, documentation, and resident records
- Tracks attendance, progression, and completion of program requirements (e.g., seminars, immersion days, deliverables)
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies, accreditation standards, and program requirements
- Designs, implements, and evaluates residency curriculum using adult learning principles
- Facilitates educational sessions, including didactic, simulation, and experiential learning
- Coordinates orientation, competency validation, and continuing education for nurse residents
- Integrates organizational priorities, professional practice model, and clinical advancement pathways into programming
- Serves as a mentor and coach, supporting resident transition to professional practice
- Collaborates with preceptors, educators, and unit leaders to optimize resident experience
- Monitors resident performance, engagement, and progression
- Provides guidance related to professional development, clinical growth, and retention
- Integrates EBP principles throughout the Nurse Residency Program and follows projects through to implementation
- Educates nurses on EBP methodology, including literature search, critical appraisal, and application to practice
- Coordinates resident EBP projects, including topic selection, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Provides ongoing coaching and mentorship throughout the project lifecycle
- Facilitates EBP project presentations and dissemination of findings
- Collaborates with EBP councils, educators, and nursing leadership to align projects with organizational priorities
- Supports translation of evidence into clinical practice and evaluates project outcomes
- Partners with nursing leadership, Human Resources, and academic affiliates to support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of new graduate nurses
- Participates in advisory boards, councils, and governance structures
- Facilitates communication between residents, leadership, and clinical teams
- Collects, analyzes, and reports program metrics (e.g., retention, engagement, outcomes, survey data)
- Evaluates program effectiveness and implements quality improvement initiatives
- Prepares reports and dashboards for leadership and accreditation requirements
- Supports continuous program improvement based on data-driven decision-making
- Demonstrates proficiency in educational technologies and clinical systems
- Effectively analyzes, prioritizes, and manages multiple responsibilities
- Education support for nursing departments based on identified needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degrees: Master’s of Science in Nursing
- Experience: 4 years of direct care nursing experience
- Licenses & Certifications: Valid Missouri RN License, BLS
Preferred Qualifications
- Degrees: Master’s of Science in Nursing Education
- Experience: Nurse Residency program or other transition to practice program, EBP project, research project, program coordination
- Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., CMSRN) and/or nurse educator certification (e.g., CNE, NPD-BC) preferred or required within two years of hire
