About the role

Processing Subrights royalty and permission payments from Foreign and US publishers for all Macmillan imprints. Record advances, permissions and royalty payments received for all Macmillan imprints. Analyze royalty statements received (earned and unearned) from publishers, agents and sub-agents. Update Biblio & Bradbury Phillips system contracts to reflect payments and royalty statements received. Follow up and maintain balance of un-process income due to lack of back up documents.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare daily deposits summary worksheet for each lockbox accounts and record transactions to payments status logs.
  • Analyze payments and back-up received for advances, permissions and non-subrights related receipts (production reimbursements, co-venture advances, profit sharing arrangements, etc.). Process data and Update contracts in the Biblio and Bradbury Phillips system (BP).
  • Analyze royalty statements (payments and unearned). Prepare worksheet with net payments received and deductions taken (e.g. agent commissions, foreign taxes withheld, bank fees, etc.) and convert local currencies to USD. Process data in Biblio and BP system. Follow up and resolve any discrepancies and issues.
  • Resolve un-posted items pending receipt of remittance advice/back-up by inquiring from subrights sales departments, payment originator, and by searching subrights mailbox and bank correspondence files.
  • Prepare payment requests and submit to Accounts Payable team (e.g. overpayment, paid in error, sub-agent commission)
  • Process Copyrights Clearance payment-high volumes
  • Review/audit China Joint-Venture semi-annual statements to ensure correct royalty rate being use for calculation, accrued life to date sales activities reported, generate invoices for payment
  • Handle requests from Rights teams or authors/agents for statement details by gathering statement(s) on file or e-mail inquire contract party for missing statement
  • Perform other tasks and projects assigned by Subrights Accounting Manager

What you'll bring:

  • Very strong analytical skill, deadline & detail-driven
  • Strong computer skills: comfortable with databases, queries, and spreadsheets—Intermediate Microsoft Excel user
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills
  • Can exercise discretion, good judgment, and work independently
  • Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events
  • Meets challenges with resourcefulness

Ideal Experience:

  • 1+ of relevant work experience, preferably in book publishing
  • Familiarity with Biblio, Bradbury Philips and royalty systems a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Accounting/Finance) preferred but not required.

This role will have an hourly rate of $20-$28/hour.
