About the role

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As the Deputy Manager of Production within the Transmission division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimising the manufacturing processes of tractor transmissions. Your responsibilities will encompass managing day-to-day production activities, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

Key deliverables include:

  • Leading the production team to meet or exceed manufacturing targets while maintaining stringent quality controls.
  • Coordinating with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain to synchronize production schedules and resolve operational challenges.
  • Implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and preparing detailed reports on production performance, equipment utilisation, and process capabilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across the production floor.
  • Driving innovation initiatives by fostering a culture of continuous learning and adapting best practices within the team.
  • Managing resource allocation including manpower, machines, and materials effectively to optimise production output.
  • Mentoring and developing team members to enhance their technical skills and leadership capabilities in alignment with Mahindra’s leadership competencies.

This role requires proactive problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Deputy Manager will directly contribute to the Farm Division’s commitment to delivering reliable and high-quality tractor transmissions that meet customer expectations.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will possess a robust educational background in engineering disciplines, specifically:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology, preferably in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a closely related field.
  • A solid foundation in manufacturing processes and industrial engineering principles is highly advantageous.
  • Additional certifications or training in production management, quality systems (such as ISO/TS standards), or Lean Six Sigma methodologies would be beneficial.

Educational qualifications should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals applied to manufacturing environments, enabling effective oversight of complex production systems. Continuous professional development and technical certifications are encouraged to stay abreast of evolving technologies and practices in tractor transmission manufacturing.

General Experience

Candidates should bring between 3 to 7 years of meaningful experience in manufacturing, particularly within the automotive or agricultural machinery sectors. Key aspects of general experience include:

  • Hands-on involvement in production operations, ideally related to transmission manufacturing or similar drivetrain component fabrication.
  • Experience working within structured manufacturing frameworks, familiar with process optimisation, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Exposure to managing or coordinating production teams and driving workflow improvements to meet production schedules.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for tracking production metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments to facilitate smooth production cycles and resolve operational bottlenecks.

Experience gained in reputed manufacturing organisations known for engineering excellence is highly desirable, complemented by familiarity with international standards and regulatory requirements pertinent to the tractor manufacturing industry.
