About the role

Position Synopsis: The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible to set direction and provide technical and organizational guidance to discipline personnel as well as setting day-to-day management of the Mechanical Engineering group. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage discipline resources - assign correct resources to each task - assign engineers and ensure the organizational support required to successfully complete project tasks is provided. 

  • Review of in-process activities to ensure company procedures, standards and technical quality are maintained in addition to ensuring any client procedures/requirements/expectations for engineering products are also met. 

  • Approval of final deliverables for submission to client. 

  • Develop/maintain in-house staff capabilities.

  • Support multi-discipline/multi-office design and engineering projects by working closely with other management peers.

  • Interface with clients (including site visits) to understand their needs and develop strong technical relationships.

  • Identify opportunities for new work; support business development, develop scope, participate in proposal preparation and estimating. 

  • Manage project budgets and meet financial goals. Responsible for financial performance of discipline organization.  

  • Participate in development of staffing plans/needs, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring.

  • Facilitate training to enhance individual/group technical expertise and promote career development.

  • Maintain quality related software utilized by the group.

  • Review and approve weekly time entry and expense vouchers.

  • Perform annual performance and compensation reviews. 

  • Obtain and maintain an active Professional Engineering License in Mechanical engineering.

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Certification(s) or License(s) Required (minimum): Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering. If not currently licensed, candidate must acquire a Professional Engineer License in Mechanical Engineering specialty within 18 months of assignment to this role.

Physical Demand Requirements - Individual will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, Teams, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Education Desired: MS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. 

Experience Desired:  Experience with power plant mechanical systems and components, plant structures, operating plant procedures, processes and nuclear plant licensing is preferred. Experience in the nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects is desired. Knowledge of and experience in project scheduling techniques is a plus.

Required Qualifications:

Education Required (minimum):  BS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Marine Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required. 

Experience Required (minimum):  15 years (minimum) with at least 10 of those years in the commercial nuclear power industry is required.
