Position Summary
We are seeking an intern to join the Discovery Pharmacology and In Vivo Biology team at our Cambridge, MA site. Our group is charged with leveraging preclinical mouse models to enable the discovery of new biology and therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. This proposed workplan will focus on developing and executing ex vivo assays to support the pharmacodynamics of a tumor intrinsic target drug discovery program.
The candidate will gain experience in a variety of in vitro and ex vivo skills including but not limited to cell culture, tumor dissociation, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, MSD/qRT-PCR/western blotting, data analysis and presentation. The candidate will not perform any in vivo experiments.
The full-time internship will take place June - August 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete required safety trainings for working in the laboratory.
- Meet and interact with team members to understand the scope and remit of the group’s priorities.
- Work with manager to become familiarized with key concepts in oncology target validation and drug discovery, with a focus on cancer biology signaling and on-going research in the group.
- Learn and master basic lab skills, including more advanced molecular biology techniques, medium to high-throughput assays, and automation.
- Accurate and timely entries in electronic lab notebook (ELN) and attention to detail.
- Work with manager to develop, optimize, and execute molecular and/or cellular assays based on proteins, DNA, and RNA. Learn about data analysis and presentation using softwares such GraphPad Prism.
- Attend lab meetings, group meetings and relevant invited speaker seminars. Present project progress at lab/group meetings as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a US-based Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Biology, Chemistry, or a relevant subject.
- Completion of introductory level course work in the natural sciences (ex. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, or Immunology) is required.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting with good aseptic techniques, mammalian cell culture skills is strongly desired. Experience with in vitro biology assays such as qRT-PCR, western blotting, Cell Titi is strongly desired.
- The candidate is not required to have experience working with laboratory rodents, however must be comfortable working with mouse tissue, blood and blood products.
- All candidates must be authorized to work in the US both at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Please note that immigration or visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS.
The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is within the range of $29.00 to $35.00/hr. Please note that the final individual compensation and any applicable benefits will be determined by your employer of record (and not BMS). Factors influencing this decision may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location of the job. Compensation details are subject to change.
