The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Temporary Associate Communications Manager – Media Relations Operations. This role is responsible for executing targeted media and communications strategies for an assigned American Heart Association/American Stroke Association program or issue. Responsible for producing/posting written and multimedia content on the national public-facing online newsroom and media only password protected newsrooms, on other distribution outlets (EurekAlert and Alpha Galileo) and on the @HeartNews social media account.

Responsibilities
- Works with Communications teams to upload written and multimedia content into the newsroom and other distribution opportunities prior to distribution/publishing. Detailed review and some editing required to ensure copy is consistent with provided templates, meets AP Style, eliminates typographical errors and follows all embargoes. Must be familiar with AP Style.
- Uploads/posts provided X posts (formerly Twitter) and is responsible for creating daily X posts featuring American Heart Association/American Stroke Association health information and Association News stories as well as proactively monitoring news for potential activity and activation on newsroom social media account.
- Monitors, reviews and develops reports on media coverage (analyzing and distributing appropriate media clips, reporter coverage, and public response) including a daily media coverage report distributed to select staff and volunteers. Provides analytics reports, collects and analyzes information about @HeartNewsTwitter site usage and as needed, for the newsroom. Provides research analysis/issues management reviews monthly.
- Acts as point of contact for multiple media outlets; includes researching, targeting and fostering relationships with key press representatives, reporters, or agency contacts to promote assigned messaging. Assists with telephone coverage and responds to media inquiries and other collaborative departmental activities as assigned.
- Collaborates with American Heart Association/American Stoke Association departments as appropriate to assigned focus area to incorporate messaging into programs and initiatives across the organization.
- Prepares for press events, public access tours or related media programs as needed by communication plan. This includes assisting in the pre-planning and the on/offsite execution of certain newsroom operations at American Heart Association/American Stroke Association scientific meetings throughout the year. Content creation/posting in the Scientific Meetings password protected newsrooms; Ability to travel to and work in the News Media Center at Scientific Sessions and other scientific conferences as assigned by Supervisor; Assists with production of news materials, including multimedia, for scientific meetings as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications or related area
- Two (2) years of experience writing, copy editing press releases, media content, or other communications. Understanding of newsroom operations and AP Style. Journalism/News media / broadcast television background helpful
- One (1) year of Technical experience: Understanding/experience working on an online newsroom; social media platforms – experience/skilled in newsroom CMS systems, posting and analytics platforms like SprinkLr, Meltwater, Cision helpful.
- One (1) year of Project management experience, including managing multiple projects concurrently.
