Position Overview –

AJM Packaging Corporation, one of America’s leading manufacturers of paper products, including paper plates, cups, bowls and bags, has due to internal promotion, an immediate opening for a highly motivated hands-on Human Resources Manager.

The HR Manager will partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resources and talent strategy as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention and succession planning. Further, the HR Manager leads and directs all aspects of the site’s HR activities, including employee relations, team engagement, performance management, benefits, compensation, labor/regulatory compliance, policy interpretation, and implementation of HR programs.

Focused on excellence, the HR Manager will coach, mentor, guide, and partner while providing comprehensive employee and management services. As an integral member of the HR team, the incumbent will also partner with other site HR Managers to optimize initiatives and support consistency across the business. This position reports directly (functionally) to the Director of Human Resources – Operations and operationally into the Plant Manager. The HR Business Generalists at the site will report directly into this role.

Responsibilities & Duties –

  • Apply and follow all Federal, State laws, such as EEOC, FMLA, ADA, HIPPA, NLRB, etc., and other legal requirements to protect the company against litigation.
  • Develop strategic and tactical approaches to HR in areas including employee development, employee relations, policy and procedure development, training, compensation and benefits and performance evaluation within the manufacturing plant.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key business partners to provide coaching, guidance, and consultation on full-cycle employment matters. Identify training opportunities to enhance leadership capability across the facility.
  • Operationally focused and manufacturing savvy, by spending considerable time on the manufacturing floor, the HR Manager will heavily partner with the Plant Manager and all line managers in driving operational excellence.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and ensure consistent application of HR policies and programs such as performance management, reviews, learning & development, talent assessment, and benefits to site employees.
  • Oversee site talent acquisition and recruiting activities, monitor site headcount levels & staffing plan and partner with the Corporate Talent Acquisition team to determine effective recruitment strategies to help with long term workforce planning and resource management, prioritize staffing needs, and ensure a positive candidate experience.
  • Lead and manage all employee relations issues, disciplinary matters, investigations, ensuring fairness and compliance.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive employee experience (hourly and salaried) through proactive initiatives, feedback mechanisms, and strategic resolution of employee relations challenges.
  • Assist corporate office in the implementation and initiation of any new or changing human resources policy, procedure, or programs at the plant level.
  • Coordinate compliance and safety training. Ensure facility is up to date with all compliance & safety requirements, bulletins, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Investigate any work-related accidents, prepare injury reports, and elevate notifications, as necessary. Actively engage on the plant floor building awareness to issues, building culture and solving problems.

Minimum Requirements –

  • Degree in Business, Management, or Human Resources
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred
  • 7+ years’ experience supporting the full spectrum of HR disciplines preferably in a high-speed manufacturing environment with 4 or more years in a management role
  • Experience partnering with Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Compliance & other HR Centers of Excellence professionals
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, and employment laws and their implications in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including Operations, and other functions
  • Ability to influence others, to drive behavioral changes where appropriate
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to research and exercise judgment on issues
  • Demonstrated conflict & change management skills
  • High level of integrity, and respect for confidential and sensitive information
