Job Description:

The Operations Supervisor is a shop floor leadership role at our Baltimore MD Point Blvd facility, overseeing a fleet of approximately 903 units and a team of approximately 18 employees across one shift. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Operations, this role is a return to a full shop supervisor function, responsible for all shift-level operations including technician management, workflow coordination, quality, safety, asset maintenance, and customer relationship management. This is also a development role intended to prepare high-performing incumbents for advancement into an Operations Manager position.

Your Team

You will join a team of two other shift supervisors (1st and 2nd shift) and manage the following direct reports on your shift:

  • 2 Operations Management Trainees (OMTs), one per shift
  • 12 Technicians
  • 4 Technician Trainees

Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
  • Base Salary: $65,000 annually
  • Incentive: Management Incentive Plan (MIP) eligibility

Essential Functions

Workflow Management

  • Lead work analysis, planning, scheduling, and technician assignments across the shift
  • Conduct shift and shop meetings; review and approve Repair Orders (ROs)
  • Triage unscheduled customer drive-ins; communicate vehicle status and work assignments
  • Conduct regular yard checks to ensure proper work scheduling and prioritization
  • Ensure all warranty policies and procedures are executed correctly

Labor Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, training, and development to all assigned personnel
  • Conduct performance management processes for all direct reports
  • Support cross-functional coverage and backup needs within the shop

Customer Management

  • Manage customer relationships, including issue resolution, satisfaction, and vehicle uptime
  • Execute PM scheduling communications, breakdown updates, and vehicle status follow-up
  • Conduct customer visits as required by the Customer Care Plan

Asset Management

  • Direct team in maintaining location appearance and 65 standards across all relevant shop areas
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling and equipment requirements
  • Assist in managing vehicle specifications and the vehicle in-service/out-service process
  • Ensure all vehicles have required specifications in SAM
  • Manage parts inventory in accordance with policies and procedures

Quality Management

  • Perform quality inspections on PMs and repairs; conduct In Process Reviews of non-PM work
  • Perform breakdown root cause analysis and implement corrective actions; escalate to Technical Assistance Center as needed
  • Ensure cleanliness and quality of repair for all maintained vehicles
  • Work with the Service Manager to ensure technicians are properly trained and TOPS plan is prioritized based on breakdown, rework, and running cost trends
  • Maintain control and visibility over shop floor activities to ensure proper root cause diagnosis and optimize parts/component yield
  • Support development and implementation of Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs
  • Maintain all required documentation to meet local, state, federal, and customer requirements
  • Ensure employee compliance with all Safety and EPA regulations

Financial Management

  • Ensure the shift delivers against Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives without sacrificing quality, safety, or customer satisfaction
  • Manage cost controls related to the maintenance operations budget and location P&L
  • Execute maintenance initiatives to attain or exceed specified financial targets
  • Oversee payroll, purchase order approval, invoice reconciliation, and fuel reconciliation
  • Manage the customer bill-back process, including identification, review, and approval of bill-back opportunities
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of re-billable activity
  • Maintain data integrity in the Shop Management Online system


Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma/GED required

  • Associate's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required. Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may be substituted for this requirement
