Job Description
AECOM Technical Services, Inc. has multiple openings for a Transportation Planner
to be based in Detroit, MI.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supporting planning studies and project development activities for new and updated plans and programs.
- Serve at the direction of the Transportation Planning lead for the Michigan offices, and other project managers as directed.
- Perform in-depth research on transportation related topics at local, state, and federal levels by collecting and analyzing a variety of statistical data.
- Topics include census information, land use, roadway network, crash records,
- and asset inventories.
- Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) and web-based digital mapping tools to analyze complex spatial data and visualize transportation conditions and trends.
- Conduct concept level evaluation of transportation improvement options and prepare technical reports with findings of project options.
- Produce high-quality map exhibits, graphic presentations, renderings, and other planning materials as needed.
- Prepare engagement plans and coordinate public engagement activities, including on-site engagement meetings and public survey design and maintenance.
- Gather public feedback, analyze high volume of responses, and develop comprehensive engagement summary report for clients, stakeholders, and public.
- Conduct fieldwork at project sites or transportation infrastructure sites to inspect and document site conditions as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.
Qualifications
Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, or related field.
Position requires:
- Fundamental theory and applications of Transportation Planning;
- Transportation planning policies;
- Conducting detailed spatial data analysis with large set of data for complex urban transportation issues;
- Data analysis and specialized GIS software: ArcGIS or other digital mapping tool;
- InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop to support production of maps, reports, flyers, or other planning materials;
- Federal, State, or local transportation planning to develop design concepts for transportation corridors;
- Public engagement or community outreach; and
- Development of technical reports, documents, client communications, or technical memoranda.
