Senior Associate, First Mile Transportation

You will be part of a team that is responsible for the successful optimization of our inbound transportation network that provides pick ups for over 10,000+ suppliers. This role will be focused on both exception management and future optimization planning. Your goal will be to consistently drive improved on-time carrier pickup, implement the processes needed to reduce exceptions, and continuously re-evaluate resource planning strategies to achieve optimal cost savings. 

The role is highly cross functional working with several teams across the Operations ecosystem including Category Management, Field Operations, Carrier Management, and Supply Chain Tech. The focus areas of this role include exception management, daily internal & external stakeholder communication, project management of new initiatives, and continuous process improvement. 

We are looking for individuals who have experience working in a fast paced environment & have a proven track record of executing with urgency while in parallel managing expectations with relevant internal & external stakeholders. The top opportunities in this role are to continuously challenge current execution/planning processes, and have the ability to root cause exceptions as they arise to identify long term solutions.

What You'll Do 

• Drive successful execution with our Field Operations partners to achieve our on-time pickup goals. 
• Monitor key performance indicators daily/weekly and drive corrective action. 
• Develop escalation paths for exception management with internal & external stakeholders. 
• Manage daily exceptions during on the road execution with quick resolution while in parallel driving root cause analysis to implement long term solutions. 
• Communicate with Field Operations & Suppliers for any changes in expectations for successful inbound transportation management. 
• Lead root cause analysis on operational issues, developing action plans and project managing improvements. 
• Drive implementation of new processes & technology products with internal & external partners.
• Implement weekly/monthly optimization adjustments to our Dedicated Fleet network to improve driver utilization and cost reductions. 
• Manage supplier/carrier level constraints to improve routing optimization efforts for Dedicated Fleets through use of Descartes Route Planner. 

What You'll Need 

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or a Supply Chain/Operations discipline.
• 2-3+ years of experience in operations, retail, consulting, strategy, or finance. 
• High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
• Experience managing projects & relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Experience in Logistics/Transportation is preferred, but not necessary.
