Job Title - Advanced Practitioner Provider Manager (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) - Ambulatory Oncology – Mount Sinai Hospital-Full Time- Day

The Advanced Practice Provider Manager-Nursing is responsible for coordination, and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing process and pertinent standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, performance of diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective and prescriptive measures in collaboration with appropriate specialty and site based physicians. The APP Manager-Nursing will provide operational leadership to advanced practice nurses across the inpatient and ambulatory settings.  

The APP Manager-Nursing supervises and directs a designated group of advanced practice nurses within distinct specialty areas of practice. These APNs may diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient’s condition within their specialty area of practice. Specialty areas may include but not limited to: Acute Care; Adult Health; College Health; Community Health; Family Health; Gerontology; Holistic Nursing; Neonatology; Obstetrics and Gynecology; Oncology; Palliative Care; Pediatrics; Perinatology; Psychiatry; School Health; and Women's Health. The APP Manager-Nursing supervises the optimization of APN clinical practice within a service line for the delivery of health care to patients while promoting a culture of patient-centered care that emphasizes service and compassion. Serves as a liaison to nursing, medicine, department chairs/chiefs, care management, administration, and other department leadership. Ensures advanced practice nurses meet compliance with regulatory agencies. 
 

Clinical Practice
1.    Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination.
2.    Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examination, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
3.    Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. 
4.    Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record.
5.    Consults with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
6.    Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.
7.    Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
8.    Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement.
9.    Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff.
10.    Maintains current expertise in area of practice
        
Administrative
1.    Collaborates with the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) and Chair or Service Chief of the respective clinical department in the recruitment, retention, and human resource management of APPs assigned to respective service.
2.    Evaluates APN staff performance, mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines staff up to and including termination. 
3.    Manages, guides and monitors APNs and interdisciplinary team members (including PAs) related to scheduling, assignments, and coordination of services. 
4.    Prepares, implements and monitors budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals.
5.    Maintains control of established positions and manages the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
6.    Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure communication with staff about progress, changes and compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
7.    Facilitates the on-boarding and orientation as well as ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners.
8.    Coordinates clinical activities of APNs to accomplish established safety and quality measures. 
9.    Provides leadership and develops effective team building. 
10.    Sets departmental goals in collaboration with division chief and other key personnel
11.    Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to service excellence; role models Mount Sinai Service Standards.
12.    Participates in relevant hospital-wide committees.
13.    Acts as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient areas to assure continuity of care.
14.    Reviews FPPE/OPPE of Advanced Practice Nurses on the assigned service.
15.    Engages with collaborating physicians, division chief and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice, systems are supportive of clinical care.
