Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for taking a leading part in driving the overall talent and people strategy by using best practices in retaining and developing our current talent pool within Lakeshore Recycling Systems. The HR Generalist will lead and drive HR programs and support the business from a people standpoint. This role works directly and closely with the business leaders, and the like to ensure the success against department goals as well as the broader company goals and strategic direction.
Reports To
Vice President Human Resources
- Partner with department leaders to understand business needs, build relationships, and align HR strategies.
- Provide day-to-day HR support including coaching managers on employee engagement, communication, development, and recognition.
- Lead and resolve complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies.
- Conduct thorough and objective workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
- Advise on performance management practices, including goal setting, coaching, documentation, and improvement planning.
- Facilitate the annual performance review and employee engagement survey processes.
- Maintain and interpret HR policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Oversee HR data integrity and reporting within the company’s HRIS (e.g., ADP).
- Support onboarding, orientation, and training for new hires and managers.
- Lead or contribute to strategic HR projects such as talent development, succession planning, M&A integration, and organizational change initiatives.
- Coordinate and deliver training on compliance topics including performance management, harassment prevention, and safety.
- Stay current on employment law, HR trends, and best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
- Perform other HR duties and projects as required or assigned.
Scope of Responsibility:
This role does not include direct supervision but has broad influence across departments.
Partners with managers on key HR decisions that affect performance, compliance, and talent development.
QualificationsKnowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong generalist knowledge across multiple HR disciplines, especially employee relations and performance management.
- Experience with workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws (EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.).
- Effective communication, coaching, and consulting skills across all levels.
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience using HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP) and data reporting tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, judgment, and customer service orientation.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant HR experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in a generalist
- Experience supporting multiple departments or business units is a plus.
- HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) is desirable but not required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and handling documents.
- Regular communication via phone, video conferencing, and in-person.
- Work in typical office setting with moderate noise and climate control.
- May occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Travel Required:
Occasional travel required approximately 10–15% of the time for site visits, training, and business initiatives.
