As a Cloud Application Architect at Effectual, you will help develop cloud-based solutions for our clients. You will architect scalable, reliable, and secure applications that use cloud technologies to meet our clients' business objectives. You will report to the Application Practice Director.
A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Cloud Application Architect
As a Cloud Application Architect, you are responsible for the technical success of an engagement and are generally the escalation point for any technical issues. A Cloud Application Architect is an interface between the development team, the engagement manager, quality assurance, and your client/product owner to guide the application architecture, ensure appropriate backlog grooming and prioritization, and assist with the implementation and release of application features.
You will participate in daily stand-ups where they communicate progress made since the last check in, re-evaluate any estimates, agree on priorities for the day, and voice any blockers that the team needs to be made aware of. Cloud Application Architects will often work on technical spikes, POCs, and spec'ing out new solutions via diagrams to be picked up and seen through by the development team. A Cloud Application Architect will have understanding of the inner workings and connections of an entire project and will often be the go-to for fielding questions from the client and addressing emergency issues.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to understand their requirements, technical needs, and application goals.
- Design cloud-based application architectures that align with clients' business objectives and use leading practices in cloud computing.
- Develop and document architectural blueprints, technical specifications, and implementation plans for cloud-based applications.
- Provide technical guidance to development teams throughout the application development lifecycle.
- Ensure that applications are designed and implemented to be scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective.
- Conduct performance analysis and optimization of cloud-based applications to meet defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Stay up to date with the latest trends and developments in cloud computing, application development, and architecture practices.
- Conduct technical reviews and provide recommendations for improving existing application architectures.
- Collaborate with teams, including project managers, software engineers, infrastructure architects, and operations teams, to ensure delivery of projects.
- Assess technical problems and predict development timelines with reasonable accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Cloud Application Architect or a similar role in an IT Professional Services consulting organization.
- Expertise in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including knowledge of their multiple services.
- Proficiency in developing cloud-native architectures, microservices.
- Expertise developing applications utilizing containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with modern application development frameworks and programming languages (e.g., .NET, Java, Python, Node.js).
- Understanding of application integration patterns, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Solid knowledge of database systems, both SQL and NoSQL, and their integration with cloud-based applications.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and configuration management.
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect,) are a plus.
- Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) preferred.
- Use of code analysis and observability tools such as AWS X-Ray, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, etc.
- Strong understanding of application and network security.
- Deep understanding the business aspects of software development, such as budgeting, resource allocation, and ROI analysis.
- AWS certifications (e.g.: Cloud Practitioner).
Location: Remote
Salary Range for this position: $105,000-$172,000
