The Director of Sports & Recreation and Day Camp is responsible for the administration and operation of the sports and recreation programs for adults, teens and youth including clinics, leagues and gymnasium activities throughout the year. Additionally, this role is responsible for overseeing and leading The South Shore YMCA’s Camp Quirk during the summer months with preparatory work in the offseason.

- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Sports & Recreation:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Manage Events and facilitate field rentals and branch rentals that pertain to the Sports and Recreation Department
- Day Camp:
- Assist in planning and execution of programs to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Responsible for assisting in the compliance in all related areas including the Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) licensing procedures and regulations, assist in working towards increased Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) levels as determined by SACC goals and promoting YUSA Healthy Eating Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. Provide reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities to participate in activities whenever possible and to meet each child’s individual needs according to EEC and ADA.
- Sports & Recreation:
- STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Recruits, hires, trains, manages, develops, coaches, counselors, support staff, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed to support programs. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Monitor and communicate with Camp Director all staff related EEC, QRIS, and South Shore YMCA requirements.
- MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
- Builds relationships with and among families and members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.
- BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Plans and manages department budgets as approved in a fiscally responsible manner. Responsible for timely and accurate payroll for the department.
- FACILITY MANAGEMENT
- Work with appropriate branch and camp staff to provide program facilities for children and members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.
- VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
- Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility. Responsible for assisting and engaging with volunteers.
- COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
