Essential Job Functions:
- Installs, operates and maintains electrical services, lighting, alarm systems and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on the hospital’s electrical power distribution systems, lighting, life safety systems and electric machinery. Maintains inspection and testing records. Evaluates the condition of electrical systems and recommends repair or replace actions. Coordinates maintenance with outside contractors.
- Responds to emergency malfunction events. Accesses situation, and takes action to stabilize situation to avoid further damage and make safe. Documents off-normal incidents.
- From blueprints and diagrams plans, estimates and recommends materials and costs to repair or install new electrical services and equipment and installs such devices in accordance with local and national codes.
- Identifies and evaluates affected areas for proposed construction. Investigates electric service shutdowns, initiates shutdowns and reactivations. Oversees the installation of electric services and equipment by outside contractors and records deficiencies on punch list. Participates in system start-up and commissioning.
- Utilizes and maintains tools and instruments associated with the electrician trade.
- Maintains electrical supply and parts inventories, fills out purchase requisitions. Records time and materials expended on computerized work order system. Following manufactures and regulatory specifications reviews and updates electrical systems and equipment preventive maintenance records and schedules.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
- Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or the equivalent with coursework in shop, science, mathematics and blueprint and equipment schematics reading is required.
- Successfully completed an electrician apprentice program required.
- A minimum of five years’ experience as an electrician required. Experience in a health care or comparable institutional setting preferred.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Working knowledge of building and life safety codes with specific knowledge of city, state and national electric codes for health care occupancies required.
- Knowledge of and practices personal safety, hospital infection control and life safety procedures required. Utilizes personal protection equipment, including: eyesight, respiratory and hearing protective devices.
