About the role
The Engineer IV role for the Power BI Platform is a principal-level technical leader responsible for the enterprise data visualization strategy, semantic modeling standards, Power BI architecture, governance, operational frameworks, and lifecycle management of BI capabilities across the organization. Engineer IV is the most-senior member of the engineering team and is accountable for the outcomes of the team. As a lead and team member, the incumbent is expected to provide technical leadership across multiple teams or departments, represents engineering in enterprise governance forums, serves as technical authority for executive level decision making - imparting knowledge and skills to junior team members. The role manages designs, implements, and supports enterprise technology solutions that power Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s global business operations. It focuses on creating secure, scalable, and high-performing systems that accelerate innovation, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making. As a key member of Otsuka’s IT organization, the engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams across applications, data and infrastructure to deliver reliable, compliant, and future-ready solutions. The IT Engineer IV manages with the Technical Engineering Teams throughout the entire technology lifecycle—from strategic planning to deployment, optimization, and support—ensuring Otsuka’s IT environment remains secure, compliant, and responsive to business needs.
The IT Engineer IV is responsible for the following:
Solution Design & Implementation
Defines enterprise architecture patterns, standards, and reference models.
Leads architecture for large-scale, multi-platform systems.
Evaluates and formally recommends emerging technologies, frameworks, and platforms.
Leads complex proof-of-concepts that determine long-term technology direction.
Influences budgets, roadmaps, and vendor selection decisions.
Project Delivery & Collaboration
Aligns multiple engineering teams around unified architectural direction.
Serves as escalation point for critical program risks—technical, design, or delivery.
Influences prioritization, sequencing, and resourcing alongside Product & Leadership.
Partners with Engineering Managers, Architects, and Directors to ensure consistent execution across programs.
Operations, Monitoring & Support
Defines the enterprise reliability, observability, and performance engineering strategy.
Owns systemic improvements that reduce incidents across platforms.
Partners with SRE, Security, and Platform Ops to establish long‑term operational patterns.
Ensures modernization of legacy systems to resilient, cloud‑native architectures.
Security, Compliance & Governance
Ensure solutions comply with Otsuka’s cybersecurity, GxP, data-privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
Implement and enforce policies for identity and access management, encryption, and network security.
Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring systems meet required documentation and traceability.
Drives security-by-design across engineering teams.
Partners with InfoSec and Risk to define technical controls.
Ensures architectural decisions meet regulatory requirements (SOX, PCI, SOC2, etc.).
Leads compliance remediations across large system landscapes.
Innovation, Automation & Continuous Improvement
Leads enterprise-scale POCs and innovation initiatives.
Evaluates major industry shifts (AI, automation, cloud evolution).
Drives productivity improvements across engineering orgs.
Establishes reusable frameworks, platforms, and automation standards adopted across teams.
Collaborate on FinOps and cost-optimization initiatives to enhance efficiency.
Promote standardization and reusability across platforms, applications, and processes.
Share best practices through documentation, mentoring, and internal community engagement.
Knowledge Management & Documentation
Leads knowledge-sharing forums across engineering (guilds, communities of practice).
