Principal Engineer, LTE

About the Role: 

Ooma seeks a seasoned principal engineer with deep networking development, communications, and signal processing expertise and proven work experience in embedded development and communications

What You’ll Do: 

• Work closely with carrier partners and third-party partners to build products and solutions.
• Analyze and debug field issues related to device performance and stability, including radio frequency (RF) link performance, reliability, and quality, and propose solutions in collaboration with carrier partners.
• Support existing products by providing bug fixes and expanding functionality.
• Build and support user-space libraries and tools.
• Contribute to overall architecture discussions and be a part of an evolving platform offering enhanced consumer and business communication services.
• Resolve interoperability issues between the various devices and third-party software components.
• Work with field engineering, operations and QA to resolve issues. 

• Share expertise and mentor other engineers.
• Collaborate with engineers in CA, and at Ooma's international locations. 

Experience We’re Looking For: 

• Deep experience in telephony and signal processing. Knowledge of modem protocols and alarm panels is a huge plus.
• Strong problem-solving, good communication and collaboration skills, and a self-starter driven to deliver quality work with minimal supervision.
• Experience with Audio codecs, echo canceler, and voice path technologies. 
• Linux kernel knowledge: virtual memory, scheduling, interrupt processing, device drivers.
• Experience with system testing activities like feature validation, test description documentation, test strategy creation, and problem troubleshooting. 
• Understanding of 5G concepts such as DL/UL scheduling, LTE power control, beamforming fundamentals, and MIMO.
• Understanding of overall Wireless systems with knowledge of PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC, and PDCP layers. Understanding of 3GPP systems: Core and RAN a plus.
• Experience with test tools, including protocol analyzers, XCAL/QXDM, Wireshark, channel emulators, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc.
• Extensive knowledge of hardware platforms & processor architectures and Low-level debugging experience.
• Knowledge of the following kernel subsystems: networking, USB, storage (incl. filesystems)
• Experience in debugging a real HW: JTAG, KGDB
• Experience with NXP solutions: i.MX, Layerscape is nice to have. Experience with UEFI on arm platforms is nice to have.
• Bachelor's degree in EE, Computer Science, or similar fields or equivalent experience. #LI-CC1
