R&D Technician - Advanced Patient Monitoring

About the Position

This position is part of the Advanced Patient Monitoring (APM) business unit within BD's medical segment, supporting BD's smart connected care initiative. BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world, focused on advancing healthcare through improved medical discovery, diagnostics, and care delivery.

Role Impact

As an R&D Technician, you will provide critical technical support to the product development process by:

• Supporting R&D engineers in device development through rapid prototyping, component evaluation, failure analysis, and design improvement
• Collaborating with product development teams to refine design concepts and develop testing methodologies
• Creating custom electromechanical test equipment, fixtures, and tooling for R&D applications
• Interpreting technical documentation to perform testing, evaluation, and troubleshooting
• Integrating measurement instrumentation (sensors, load cells, strain gauges) into test systems
• Configuring data acquisition systems to monitor mechanical properties (force, pressure, displacement, temperature)
• Executing and documenting complex design testing and creating technical documentation

Requirements

• Hands-on electro-mechanical skills
• Experience developing test fixtures
• Experience Troubleshooting equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical Skills
  • Strong experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and test fixture development
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electromechanical systems
  • Hands-on experience with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
  • Working knowledge of LabVIEW for test automation in R&D settings
  • Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition for various parameters (pressure, flow, leak, tensile, thermal, vibration, fatigue)
• Professional Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation (procedures, drawings, schematics, manuals, specifications)
  • Capability to quickly learn and understand complex test systems
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking abilities
  • Self-directed work ethic with ability to function both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities
• Industry Experience
  • Experience in medical device or other regulated industries
