MISSION / SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing technical support and leadership, as a member of the corporate manufacturing excellence team, to the Graphic Packaging International mills for Pulping and Bleaching.   The role of the position is to align the operating, maintenance, and engineering teams to the corporate policies and standards to successfully meet our goals for safety, environmental performance, reliability, and efficiency for Pulping and Bleaching in the mills.   The individual will provide a positive influence on mill operations to meet Graphic Packaging International’s business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives.  Key metrics for success in the role will be tracking and improving the availability, uptime, production, and efficiency of the various pulping and bleaching assets in the fleet as well as meeting safety, cost, schedule, and quality of work targets for the asset’s annual outages.   Identify and execute value creation projects with the mills through your influence and leadership.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Responsible for personal safety and a safe work environment by making and sharing safety observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Responsible for assisting mill operations to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and regulations in the area.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support in the areas of operator skills and knowledge, annual outage planning, capital project planning, and maintenance/reliability effectiveness to achieve the corporate business goals for the assets. 
  • Provide troubleshooting support in the mills as needed.
  • Identify raw material and chemical efficiency cost improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in reviewing data and provide commentary for the company’s Environmental, Stewardship and Governance reporting.
  • Collect data and issue monthly benchmarking reports to track key performance of the assets with respect to safety, cost, quality, and productivity.
  • Improve standard work systems such as trouble cause corrections, standard operating procedures, startup/shutdown checklists and centerlines for the assets.
  • Coach, teach, mentor, and perform assessments and audits of the pulping and bleaching assets to ensure compliance to Graphic Packaging International policies and standards as well as industry standards for Process Safety Management.
  • Establish and maintain currency in existing and emerging pulp and bleaching technologies relevant to Graphic Packaging International’s business competitiveness.
  • Identify and execute value creation projects with the mills through your influence and leadership. 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, or design/field engineering for Pulping and Bleaching operations in paper mills.
  • Candidates must possess the ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks, an understanding of team development concepts, a demonstrated ability to contribute as an individual and work in a team environment, as well as an established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures. 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (technical) preferred but experience as a leader to operate and maintain Pulping and Bleaching systems to high standards will be considered.
