Job Summary:

Assists with inventory control for the department. Serves as liaison between Materials Management, Surgical Services and Central Processing departments to ensure effective/efficient management of supplies, instruments and equipment. Performs tasks related to materials acquisition, receiving /distribution and inventory counts for Surgical Services, as directed. Runs program(s) with moderate budget/impact.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Preferred
  • Five years' relevant experience: Preferred
  • Completion of Operating Room Surgical Technologist training or evidence of attendance/completion of hospital approved training program: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Surgical Technologist's certification: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with supply acquisition process for the department including, but not limited to, ordering stock and non-stock items, receiving and distributing stock to appropriate areas, and maintaining related records. Utilizes the management information system. Assists with maintenance of Physician Preference Cards and preparation of case carts.
  • Assists with maintaining information system files in the Operating Room Scheduling Office System (ORSOS). Uses substantial understanding of techniques, processes and procedures to perform the job, and seeks to complete tasks in creative/effective ways. Solves escalated operational problems and technical issues. Maintains Periodic Automatic Replenishment (PAR) level of supplies and informs management of back-orders.
  • Works on activities of a diverse scope requiring minimal interpretation of policies and guidelines. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Makes recommendations on complex issues regarding work, often in ambiguous situations.
  • Solves escalated operational problems and technical issues. Communicates all pertinent information including findings, problems, concerns or ideas, to management utilizing appropriate lines of authority in a timely manner. Prioritizes own weekly schedule and guides others in completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by leadership.
  • Makes recommendations on new processes, tools and services. Supports and contributes to the development of new products, services or techniques. Assists with orienting and providing on-the-job skills training to others.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
