Senior Platform Engineer
MSDAbout the role
Job Description
Help us build the experience layer powering 40+ enterprise platforms—and make thousands of engineers happier every day.
We're building something ambitious: a unified Platform Experience layer that gives developers and data teams one beautiful, intuitive, self‑service way to consume dozens of internal platforms.
Think: a smart, modular admin portal + API hub + onboarding engine + access management + real‑time insights—all wrapped in secure, scalable automation.
If you love creating frictionless engineering experiences, designing systems that “just work,” and turning complex platform capabilities into simple, joyful interfaces, you’ll feel right at home.
Security matters deeply here—every workflow, every policy, every interaction. You’ll help bake in security-by-design while still keeping things fast and developer-friendly.
What you’ll do
Lead with experience and systems thinking: You’ll create the core elements of the Platform Experience layer—modular interfaces, intuitive onboarding flows, clear access patterns, and simple ways to understand platform health and status. Your focus will be on making complicated things feel easy and predictable
Turn complexity into clarity: You’ll design self-service experiences and workflows that abstract away the hard parts of provisioning, accessing, and integrating with platforms. You’ll translate logs, events, and orchestration outputs into signals that humans can understand instantly
Create patterns that scale: You’ll collaborate with platform owners across dozens of technologies to define standards, shared contracts, and consistent ways of working. Your work will help dozens of teams move faster, avoid duplication, and trust the systems they rely on
Give people insight and confidence: You’ll help enable meaningful dashboards, telemetry views, and signals that tell users what’s happening, why it matters, and what they should do next—whether they’re engineers, analysts, or leaders
Explore better ways of working with AI: You’ll look for opportunities to augment engineering experiences with AI: better guidance, smarter recommendations, clearer context, and more natural interactions. And you’ll help ensure this is done responsibly and securely
Be a partner and facilitator: You’ll work closely with architects, engineers, product partners, and platform owners to understand their needs, align on problems, test ideas quickly, and close the loop with clear updates. You’ll help create a working culture that values communication, curiosity, and continuous learning
Provide leadership through clarity and empathy: You’ll guide others toward better UX patterns, stronger security practices, and more coherent platform standards. You’ll help shape technical direction while balancing multiple perspectives: users, platform owners, security, and business goals
What success looks like
Onboarding and provisioning feel fast, intuitive, and self-service by default
Engineering experience consistency across dozens of platforms—shared patterns, predictable workflows, and clear guardrails
Platform owners benefit from reusable contracts, aligned patterns, and reduced operational friction
Users can quickly understand platform health, usage, cost, and compliance through meaningful signals
Whether through UI, API, CLI, or SDK, the experience feels coherent, reliable, and well‑documented
AI improves discoverability, guidance, and everyday workflows
Teams feel heard—feedback loops are fast, transparent, and meaningful
You are seen as a key voice in shaping the experience layer and aligning teams around shared standards
What you bring
A strong engineering background with experience in platform engineering, developer tooling, or internal platforms
A mindset focused on usability, clarity, simplification, and systems design—not just implementation
Comfort moving across technologies and learning new tools as needed
An automation-oriented approach and familiarity with modern Platform Engineering & DevOps practices
Experience designing experiences for developers or internal users through portals, workflows, APIs, or tooling
A security-first mindset: understanding identity, access, guardrails, and secure patterns
Experience creating meaningful telemetry and insights for users
Strong communication skills: the ability to facilitate workshops, explain decisions, gather feedback, and guide others
Comfort working in Scrum and in evolving environments
Nice to have
