The Position
Roche Sequencing Solutions is developing nanopore based sequencing dedicated to making clinical genetic testing easy and affordable. We are developing a revolutionary, low cost, single-molecule DNA sequencer that can potentially improve the lives of people in a wide variety of ways including timely screening for diseases and diagnosis of various cancers.
Roche is looking for a motivated and team-oriented individual who is passionate about revolutionary sequencing technology. The Senior Integration Systems Engineer will become a technology integration expert on the operation, theory, and data analysis from the new Roche Nanopore Sequencing platform. This person will help take the chemistry, instrument, consumable device, and software from an advanced proof of concept to an operational laboratory instrument.
Drawing on experience in systems, bioengineering and/or biochemistry, the Senior System Engineer for the Integration Team will design and implement experiments on the Roche sequencer and will help integrate chemistry advances, microfluidic consumable device improvements, and instrument interface and process changes. The candidate will analyze and present experimental results around quality, variability, and robustness of the entire system and work collaboratively across multiple teams. The candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work well in a team.
The Opportunity:
You will investigate, troubleshoot, and conduct failure analysis in a fast-paced environment
You will debug chemistry, instrumentation, consumable device, and software issues to create a robust platform
you will design, implement, and analyze sequencing results of various process changes and operating parameters
You will contribute to the creation of instrument operating protocols for functional testing
You will become an expert on the operation of the Roche Sequencing Platform
You will accurately and consistently record experimental method, materials, and results for daily tasks
You will understand and apply statistical methods, design of experiments, and/or process control monitoring techniques
Who You Are:
(Required)
You have a Bachelor's in bioengineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline with a background in instrumentation and 5+ years of experience; or you have a Master's in bioengineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline with a background in instrumentation and 3 years of experience
You have integration experience
You have demonstrated experience troubleshooting (experimental, hardware, software, reagents) and problem solving skills, along with experimental design experience
You have meticulous attention to detail and excellent written and electronic record keeping skills; strong oral and written communication skills; you are self-motivated and able to work well in a team as well as cross functionally
You have experience with statistical data analysis using JMP, Python or R
Preferred:
You have various programming experience
You have an understanding of DNA manipulation techniques, sequencing methodologies, and microfluidics is a plus
This is an on-site position based in Santa Clara, CA.
Relocation benefits are not being offered for this role.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Santa Clara, CA is $92,000 -$172,000.
