Akron General’s 2400/3100 Mother-Baby Unit provides compassionate, safe care to every mother and baby. Our specially trained nursing staff helps welcome more than 3,000 new babies into the world every year. We believe that by continually assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care based on evidence-based practice, sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, our caregivers provide safe, quality, expert and compassionate care. In addition to our highly qualified nurses, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and anesthesiologists are also available 24/7 in our unit.
A caregiver in this position works varying nights from 11:00PM – 7:30AM, including every other weekend and 3-holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.
Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.
Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
