Royal Caribbean Group’s Safety, Security & Environment has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Occupational & Guest Safety reporting to the Senior Manager, Occupational & Guest Safety

 

 

Position Summary / Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for managing, improving, and sustaining shipboard safety programs including policy, procedures, design, and oversight for all brands under Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD.  Implement, and manage policies and procedures that support a safe shipboard environment for the 60,000 + crew onboard and provide monitoring and analysis for injury related incidents onboard and ashore.  Track and follow-up on corrective actions related to injury prevention initiatives for guest and crew.  Review the results of investigations of safety related incidents with the goal of preventing future occurrences. Manage technical input for investigations.   Provide quality assurance reviews of injury investigations to ensure adequate defense strategies in cases of litigation.  Suggest improvements, solutions, and prevention steps to further safety culture onboard.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor internal and external safety reports and evaluate trends.  Provide expertise to internal departments including legal (claims), medical/public health, human resources, global security (investigations) and marine and hotel operations.
• Continually advance working knowledge of safety procedures as they relate to injury prevention including international safety regulations and standards.  Manage all processes to ensure adequate corrective actions of noted deficiencies. Manage consultants conducting risk-based assessments and reviews of technical safety items as directed. 
• Develop and support shipboard safety training programs and manage cross departmental groups to determine root cause analysis and corrective actions. 
• Review investigations of major shipboard incidents (e.g., serious injuries) and prepare reports as required. 
• Present report details   and manage follow-up action plans from investigations including safety bulletins, lessons learned training documents and detailed action items.  Manage and maintain incident database accuracy and provide content-based support and training for shipboard and shoreside users.
• Maintain professional organizational memberships related to safety and injury prevention.
• Manage risk assessments of guest shore features on RCL private destinations. 
• Attend operational safety meetings as necessary and provide expertise and guidance to ensure company policies and procedures maintain high focus and standards for injury prevention.
• Provide guidance to shipboard safety officers, Public Safety Officers, and Care Officers regarding crew and guest injury prevention.
• Work with internal departments to reduce injury related claims through improved shipboard crew training, procedures, and prevention tactics

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) preferred
• Minimum of 7-10 years maritime or industrial / public safety experience with primary responsibilities in the training, implementation and administration of safety equipment, systems, and processes.
• Experience performing risk assessments of special features/rides.  Shipyard experience a plus.
