Description:

This course will explore the complexity of schools and place of the school in the community. Practical issues around lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community are addressed. This course provides a practical and conceptual introduction to the teaching of students and will introduce student teachers to many of the philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to teaching. It provides opportunities to develop an understanding of the process of becoming a teacher, insight into the role of ethics in research, and to acquire the skills and attitudes to be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner. In these respects, this course enables the student teacher to build a foundation for continuing professional growth as an individual and as a member of the teaching community.  This course is normally open only to students in the Teaching program.

 

This course is one of a pairing of courses to be taught by the same instructor. They are connected to the site-specific curriculum of one of the Master of Teaching school-site cohorts.  As such, one instructor will be hired to teach CTL 7014H 0181 and CTL5701 0181. This course is taught on-site at Carnegie Public School in YRDSB. The successful applicant must have demonstrated current knowledge grounded in existing professional networks with both Carnegie P.S. and YRDSB educational priorities and demonstrated skills related to building community and program development involving a range of stakeholders (including school educators, OISE participants and administration, and community partners)

Sessional dates of appointment:  Sep. 2024 to Apr. 2025

 

Salary: As of May 01, 2024, the minimum stipend is $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

Candidates:

- Must have demonstrated current knowledge grounded in existing professional networks with both Carnegie P.S. and YRDSB educational priorities

- Must demonstrate skills related to building community and program development involving a range of stakeholders (including school educators, OISE participants and administration, and community partners)

- Must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience

- Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter

- Must demonstrate deep knowledge and experience in contexts, policies and practices of the division (Primary/Junior K-Gr. 6, Junior/Intermediate Gr. 4-10, Intermediate/Senior Gr. 7-12)

- Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant

- Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion

- Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates’ professional learning

- Must possess an Ontario Teaching certificate with OCT qualifications in the relevant division
