HOW WILL YOU HELP DRIVE THE FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS?

The Technical Trainer develops, schedules, and facilitates skills-based and compliance training programs for Peoples Gas operations. Serves as a mentor for technical skills development and facilitates ongoing development feedback with performance coaches. Works independently on routine assignments. May either assist Supervisor or Manager with, or seek guidance on, handling projects of a developmental nature.

 

The Technical Trainer is also responsible for developing, planning, and coordinating successful departmental and company-wide operations, compliance and training programs. These activities focus within the areas of utility operations, procedures, technology utilization, and related regulatory compliance activities as well as administration of the personnel qualification program, which includes online and performance evaluations of personnel. This position is also responsible for monitoring, analyzing and implementing process improvements related to the company’s state and federal compliance activities.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilitate operations skills-based training courses in both classroom and field settings, adjusting lesson plans accordingly and as needed.  Coach performance, mentor and develop technical skills and appropriate behaviors; communicate department policies and work rules; monitor trainees to ensure compliance with Safe Work Practices; and provide trainee performance feedback to performance coaches for ongoing trainee development. Assist in scheduling and developing training. Provides company technical, operations and safety training including the evaluation and development of training material and delivery of training programs.  
  2. Effectively facilitate compliance and regulatory training, safety awareness training and job procedures for team members and external contractors.
  3. Update technical information to ensure that training materials reflect current work methods and regulatory requirements.
  4. Ensure that proper tools, equipment, and techniques are used to perform all work in an efficient and safe manner.  Ensure that all tools and equipment are appropriately inspected and properly maintained to promote safety and efficiency at all times.
  5. Research and evaluate new industry products, programs and technologies as appropriate.
  6. Participate on company committees as appropriate.
  7. Assists with the development and revision of company policies, procedures and training programs related to pipeline construction, operations and maintenance activities.
  8. All other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Must have valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Minimum seven years of technical related natural gas industry operations experience in progressively more complex assignments and utilizing leadership skills in providing guidance and assessment of team members work processes.
  • Advanced computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • Presentation and communication skills are essential to effectively deliver classroom and field instruction and to assist with maintenance of standard operating procedures and training programs and internal and external communications.
  • Demonstrated strong team leadership in mentoring/guiding others in operative processes, procedures and technical methods and skills through clear communication, resourcefulness, effective delivery and influence, with proven credibility through confidence and competence in subject matter.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of gas distribution practices, standard of pressure and gas quality, and understand the danger inherent in low pressures and the failure of pressure regulatory equipment to maintain a standard of gas quality.
