About the role
J.D. McCarty Center serves patients 0-21 years of age with a variety diagnosis and is looking for a Registered Nurse to coordinate the clinical needs of our patients to include arranging appointments, general needs, physician consults, and meeting with interdisciplinary team. This position requires attention to detail, interpersonal skills, is passionate about working with children and their families in providing new and improved treatment strategies.

- Investigate, follow up, and communicate with physicians, guardians, and treatment team to resolve any patient care issues.
- Work with treatment team to ensure patients are getting the appropriate care, and determine any additional patient needs or consults.
- Attend weekly Physician Staffing as needed.
- Conduct and Coordinate Physician Clinic monthly.
- Attend Bed Meeting weekly. Take notes on the patients being reviewed. Anticipate and prepare for any additional needs and supplies.
- Conduct/Host a weekly Patient Team Meeting providing medical updates on patients and answer questions, report any concerns or needs to the appropriate person, or carry out needs when necessary.
- Track and assist with obtaining prescriptions as needed.
- Review patient medical records. Report important findings to the appropriate physician.
- Communicate and collaborate with attending physicians on upcoming scheduled procedures.
- Send out appointment emails weekly to include coordination with staffing and transportation.
- Keep track of upcoming discharges, and ensure all prescriptions and equipment needs are considered.
- Attend Admission and Discharge Meetings to coordinate care among guardians and treatment team.
- Assist Clinic Nurse in Neuro Clinics.
- Cover Neuro,Behavioral, Ortho, and Vision Clinics if the Clinic Nurse is out of the office.
- Cover for the Admissions Nurse and Infection Control Nurse as needed when they are out of the office.
- Assist Infection Control Nurse with inpatient medical needs.
- Complete assigned Nursing QAPI measures every month. Report in quarterly QAPI meeting on nursing and applicable clinic measures.
- Attend Behavior Staffing every Wednesday. Update the team on medical changes, medication changes, or results from Behavior Clinic.
- Keep track of TD assessments, and coordinate completion of assessments.
- Create Seizure Action Plans on applicable new admissions.
- Check in on medical needs of our inpatients and follow up needed with the patients.
- Assist physicians with patient exams done in the main building. Obtain new orders when given, and report them to the hospital unit nurses.
- Assist with education on various topics. Provide in-services for staff as needed.
- Check, communicate, and follow up with what items are needed for our patients before admissions or while here.
- Communicate consult orders to appropriate CMA. Assists them with any other medical records needed to schedule appointments.
- Maintain on call status as assigned in the role of NMOC
- May work as a floor nurse when necessary
- Will be an integral part of the treatment team within the nursing department
