We are searching for an Agricultural/Commercial Banker in our Lanesboro and Rushford, MN area markets. Five years of customer service and sales experience with two years of banking experience desired.

The Ag/Commercial Banker is responsible for the development, origination, processing and service of all personal, professional, agricultural and commercial customers. Responsibilities includes developing and maintaining a profitable commercial / agricultural loan portfolio at a minimum and prudent risk level in conformance with guidelines set forth in the Bank’s loan policy guidelines and ensuring customer satisfaction by practicing excellent customer service techniques and standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong community involvement.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Nurture existing customer relationships through direct calls and ongoing contact as directed by your Market President.
• Meet with existing borrowers to review credit/deposit/investment needs and strengthen their banking relationship.
• Actively find and solicit new business customers through direct calls, community outreach and networking with community leaders.
• Interview loan applicants, then carry their application through the entire loan application process. These activities include (but are not limited to): collect and analyze financial and related data to determine the general credit - worthiness of the prospective loan request. Screen credit applications and make credit decisions. Assist, as necessary, in the credit approval process.
• Establish and negotiate the terms under which credit will be extended, in keeping with Bank credit culture and guidelines.
• Work to become a trusted advisor for your customer, such that you advise them on business management and financial matters, as well as offer broader suite of services at Merchants Bank.
• Cross-sell additional bank services, such as treasury management, wealth management, mortgage and deposit products and services.
• Develop and present proper credit underwriting packages for review and approval at appropriate loan committee (based on loan size).
• Supervise preparation of loan underwriting, review and loan closing documents. Follow up on loan documentation and overall financial and repayment performance.
• Monitor loan repayment activities and take the necessary action to collect past due accounts.
• Coach lending assistants in preparing loan documents, correspondence, and customer follow-up.
• Join with other lenders in managing credit lines and assist in review and approval process.
• Maintain a clear focus on achieving branch, region and Bank goals specifically as they relate to credit quality and profitability.
• Sell crop and livestock insurance.
• Participate in all Bank staff meetings (local and company-wide).
• Be an active member of at least one community organization to increase the Bank's visibility, build and strengthen relationships and discover new business opportunities.
• Attend at least 4 bank-sponsored community events per year.


Additional incentive opportunity:
• Merchants Bank offers crop insurance. There is the potential to offer crop insurance and earn additional incentives. Proper insurance licensing with the State of Minnesota is required.

Overall Ongoing Accountabilities:
• Originate and service commercial and agricultural loans/deposits to contribute to the development of a sound and profitable commercial loan portfolio.
• Ensure minimal loss from outstanding commercial loans through effective utilization of the Bank's loan policy procedures.
• Ensure timely and accurate compilation and preparation of file comments and credit review for use by Senior Lender as well as Commercial Loan and Officer Loan Committee.

Working Conditions:
