GEICO is seeking an experienced leader to head its established eDiscovery & Records Management (EDRM) function within the Legal Department. Our core platforms are live and documented and delivering measurable value. We are looking for a leader to operate, scale, and elevate this function: sharpening defensible processes, advancing our AI and automation strategy, maturing information governance, developing the team, and delivering increasing value to the business.

This position reports to the Vice President / Head of Enterprise Litigation, Investigations & eDiscovery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of eDiscovery and records professionals; drive organizational design as the program scales.
  • Own the defensibility and quality of end-to-end eDiscovery operations — legal holds, identification, preservation, collection, processing, ECA, review, and production — as the accountable program leader.
  • Set and execute the function's AI and automation strategy, including ROI measurement, in partnership with Legal Technology.
  • Manage the legal-technology vendor relationships (review platform, legal-hold system, collection/conversion services, and records vendors) for cost, performance, and ROI.
  • Partner with Legal Technology and cross-functional teams (IT, Messaging, Data Security, Privacy, Claims) on the technology roadmap — including document management strategy, legal hold service integration, and workflow automation.
  • Advise attorneys and senior leadership on complex eDiscovery questions, discovery strategy, and evolving legal/regulatory obligations.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce risk, increase productivity, and control spend; maintain workflow documentation and standards as the system of record.
  • Appropriately assess risk in business decisions, adhering to policy, applying judgment, and driving compliance.
  • Serve as the senior point of escalation for eDiscovery matters across the Legal Department and the Company.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in a technology or related field, or equivalent experience; JD preferred.
  • 10+ years in eDiscovery, legal operations, or legal technology, including experience leading and developing teams and managing a function or program.
  • Demonstrated experience operating mature eDiscovery platforms (e.g., cloud review, legal-hold, and M365 collection tools) at scale.
  • Experience with AI/GenAI or TAR in document review, including defensibility and cost/ROI considerations.
  • Strong background in information governance and records management (retention, legal holds, collaboration-data and physical-records lifecycle).
  • Experience managing legal-technology vendors, contracts, and spend.
  • Deep understanding of eDiscovery and its relationship to adjacent disciplines (compliance, records, information governance, IT, data privacy/protection, and security).
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills with senior management, in-house and outside counsel, and cross-functional partners.

Location:

  • This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD or New York City, NY.
