Job Description

The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Linux server and workstation infrastructure supporting critical weather forecasting systems within the National Weather Service's Pacific Region. This includes ensuring system security, availability, and performance to meet the high demands of weather prediction operations. Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to ensure continuous uptime and service availability. Develop and implement systems administration-related solutions for various projects and operational needs. Maintain best practices for managing systems and services across all environments. Conduct fault finding, analysis, and logging of information for performance exception reporting. Proactively monitor system performance and engage in capacity planning to anticipate and manage growth. Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware. Create and modify scripts or applications to automate tasks and enhance system functionality. Provide input on improving the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment. Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

 

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in applying IT security concepts, methodologies, principles, procedures and using industry-standard IT security tools.
  • Proficiency in contingency planning and backup and recovery best practices.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification (or equivalent) plus 2 to 4 years’ experience as a Linux Systems Administrator.
  • Pass a background security check
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Obtain a Passport prior to the start of the contract 
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communications
  • Proficiency in interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in handling multiple tasks concurrently
  • Proficiency in project and time management
  • Ability to efficiently adjust to changing priorities
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, etc.
