About the role

The UNM Medical Group, Inc is seeking an Full-time Patient Services Supervisor to work within our Patient Services and Revenue Cycle Operations Departments of the UNM Cancer Center.

Minimum $48,182 - Midpoint $60,233*

Hours: 8am - 5pm

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

The Supervisor, Patient Services role provides practice management support including patient scheduling, orders processing, registration, insurance verification, prior authorization, and medical records administration. The Supervisor, Patient Services provides direction, schedules work, monitors results, and supports employee development and engagement.

Summary

The Supervisor, Patient Services directly supports the day-to-day operations within the Patient Services and Revenue Cycle Operations Departments of the UNM Cancer Center. This role provides practice management support including patient scheduling, orders processing, registration, insurance verification, prior authorization, and medical records administration. The Supervisor, Patient Services provides direction, schedules work, monitors results, and supports employee development and engagement.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Patient Services Supervisor:

High school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of work experience acquired in a medical environment; including a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

This position will be located at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC). The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) is a statewide provider of cancer care and is influential in the cancer field throughout New Mexico and the nation. It is the only academic healthcare facility dedicated to both cancer research and patient care and is also the only Cancer Center in New Mexico designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and one of just sixty-six (66) premier NCI-designated centers nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Patient Services Supervisor:

1. Supervises daily administrative operations of the department including establishing work priorities, overseeing workflow, assisting in the resolution of problems related to the day-to-day functions including patient issues and ensuring that the practices of the department are in compliance with UNM Cancer Center Policies and Procedures.

2. Maintain, monitor and evaluate the provision of Patient Services within the UNM Cancer Center, to include all operations affecting registration, scheduling, orders processing, insurance verification, prior authorization, and medical records administration.

3. Working within the UNM Cancer Center framework analyzing practice management reports to identify practice patterns and issues that are utilized for problem resolution.

4. Evaluates the needs of the functional area supervised to provide an on-going assessment and recommendation of the appropriate tools and resources needed to successfully complete the day-today responsibilities for all Patient Services functions.

5. Develop a leadership relationship with the staff under direct supervision and identify expectations and goals for your functional area and employees.

6. Consistently maintain the same high standards for employee performance under direct supervision and follow established processes for performance improvement and progressive discipline.

7. Develops and utilizes management tools to support ongoing evaluation of performance within the supervised functional area and implements continuous improvement efforts to meet all established quality benchmarks.

8. Facilitates the orientation and training of employees in the implementation of operational initiatives for the Patient Services Department, which will support the standardization of key functions and practices throughout the department.
