Summary:
The SIS Dean’s Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is appointed by the dean and charged to help the entire school move forward in building a more diverse and inclusive community. The Staff Co-Chair of the Advisory Council seeks to hire an SIS graduate student to serve as the Council’s Administrative Assistant. A strong candidate will have contributed to diversity and inclusion initiatives in previous schools, workplaces, or here at AU and will demonstrate a solid interest in the deepening of SIS diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and implementation. This position would especially appeal to a person who likes to be part of the development of something new; takes initiative; and shows confidence by contributing ideas that can better a project.
Essential Functions:
This position will report to one of the Council Co-Chairs and will help the Council through scheduling, communications, data collection and web support.
The Assistant will be responsible for collecting information and progress on diversity and inclusion initiatives being led by different entities within SIS and will help to share that information across the school.
The Assistant will write content for, and manage content on, the SIS Diversity website to showcase relevant DEI programs, information, and initiatives, including the SIS Voices Series that highlights alumni from historically underrepresented groups.
The Assistant will also have a major role supporting the second year of the SIS Catalyst for Equity and Impact, a DEI initiative led by the Dean’s Advisory Council for DEI. This will require communications with SIS leaders, students, and external partners, all of whom share SIS’s commitment to creating a more diverse professional field of international affairs.
At the heart of the SIS Catalyst initiative is a breakfast series bringing together these three groups of people for constructive conversation and collaboration around themes of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.
The Assistant will support the development of this community of practice through research, communications, survey distribution, reporting, and ongoing tracking of new projects, actions, and collaborations that result within the SIS Catalyst community.
Salary Range:
$18.50 per hour.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
20 hours per week.
This position will have a hybrid schedule, working both remotely and on campus.
Required Education and Experience:
Current SIS Graduate Student.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills (phone, email, in-person).
Strong writing skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to work in multicultural environments.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Preferred Requirements:
Previous experience working at AU campus office.
Experience communicating with people at a variety of levels of an organization
Experience writing for the web
Experience managing content on websites
Knowledge of survey tools and experience with data collection and analysis
Event planning experience
