PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hourly Pay: $20.00
Estimated average hours per week: 29 - 40

Please note, The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical Benefits as well as accrue paid time off and receive 10 paid holidays.
This is a front-line, customer-focused position responsible for public safety, natural resource education, and Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) rules and regulations education and compliance for the purpose of protecting and preserving natural resources, sites, and structures throughout the PROS system including reservoirs, trails, open space, and developed parks.

This position will be expected to work weekends, early morning, late evening, and holiday shifts when required.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
VHBE Park Rangers serve PROS customers and Aurora residents by:
- Performing daily operational requirements at assigned sites, which may include opening and closing facilities, securing buildings, cash handling, cash register operation, preparing revenue reports, maintenance operations, traffic control, Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) boat inspections and activity/patrol reporting following established policies and procedures.
- Willing to relate in a positive way to the public while explaining park rules and regulations, state boating and wildlife regulations and city ordinances.
- Provide information and directions to the public.
- Investigate and resolve visitor complaints
- Ensure public safety and the enjoyment of park areas through positive visitor contacts.
- Perform rescue and/or first aid/CPR services to the public.
- Perform patrol in assigned location(s) by foot, by vehicle, ATV, mountain bike, other off road transportation, and by boat.
- Communicate effectively and coherently over ranger and emergency radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
- Contacting customers or Aurora residents for violations of Aurora PROS rules and regulations when necessary. This may include investigating violations, issuing summonses - report writing and appearing in court.
- Ability to issue summonses will be based upon a successful and demonstrated completion of specific training in this area as determined by a supervising ranger.
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education/Experience: College coursework and/or a BS/BA degree in Ecology, Biology, Fishery Management, or related degree is preferred. Preferred education and/or experience in customer service, natural resources, recreation, wildlife, fisheries, ecology, and experience making contacts regarding rules and regulations, motor boat operation and emergency medical r
