HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
Western Organization of Resource Councils (WORC) seeks a motivated nonprofit Human Resources Manager to create and develop comprehensive Human Resources policies and strategies for our nonprofit network of nine member groups across seven states. The Human Resources Manager would be a critical part of our team working to care for and develop our people and organizational culture so that we can build our collective power to win. WORC is a regional network of nine grassroots community organizations in seven Western states. Our mission is to advance a vision of a democratic, sustainable, and just society through community action. For over four decades, WORC and our local and state-based member groups have been fighting for social change by organizing rural westerners to address long-term issues affecting their families, communities, and quality of life. WORC is nationally respected for our experience winning campaigns on clean energy, natural resources, food, and farm issues through community organizing, training, leadership development, and voter engagement. WORC’s network is committed to ushering long-term, ground-up change by building grassroots power through base-building and leadership development.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Human Resources Manager would be responsible for the following:
- Hiring: Ensure recruitment and hiring processes are equitable, inclusive, robust and consistent, including leading or participating in hiring processes and updating and maintaining tools and best practices
- Policies and compliance: Implement and refine HR policies and practices to enhance staff effectiveness, retention, support, and well-being; work with the Executive Director to ensure a fair and equitable compensation structure; maintain knowledge of HR industry trends; and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws and regulations
- Staff development: Ensure comprehensive and effective onboarding for all new hires, oversee annual performance reviews, develop and support professional development plans in partnership with supervisors
- Training: Develop trainings for WORC and network staff to enhance staff experience, including workplace safety; promote workplace and network values; and educate staff regarding legal requirements, policies and best practices
- Network relationships: Support the building and maintenance of collaborative relationships across the WORC staff and network, including supporting an inclusive, supportive multicultural environment, and effective resolution of conflicts, grievances and disciplinary matters
- Network support: Provide human resources and personnel advice, support, training and tools to WORC’s nine-member groups
Requirements
WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Public Administration
- 3+ years of management level experience, preferably in Human Resources for a nonprofit organization of similar size and scope
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including experience developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse group of individuals
- Highly motivated, proactive work style and excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to building personal and organizational equity and experience applying that commitment in a work environment
- Ability to work effectively with teams, especially when members are based in different locations
- Familiarity with recruitment and screening techniques and practices
- Experience in caring for people, and creating a healthy, safe, supportive and learning-oriented work environment on a team or in an organization
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and HR tools
