Summary:
The Staff Clinician position promotes the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students by providing professional mental health services (i.e., crisis intervention, clinical intakes and psychotherapy), clinical case management, referral assistance, consultation, outreach, and participation in rotation of after-hours emergency coverage. The Staff Clinician also assists with the Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services’ training program and participates in activities throughout the university.

Case Management Responsibilities: Develops and implements systems for follow-up with students who have been referred to community resources (i.e., therapists, psychiatrists, hospitals). In coordination with Center for Well-being and Psychological Services staff and other AU case management teams, assists and supports students in accessing community-based outpatient mental health services. Assists students who have been hospitalized for psychiatric concerns transition successfully out of the inpatient setting into recommended aftercare resources. Assists and collaborates with Center staff and campus partners in treatment and disposition planning for students with complex mental health needs.
Clinical Services: Provides direct clinical services, such as individual or group counseling, crisis intervention, intakes, and consultations, in order to assess and address the emotional concerns of students, promote a supportive and knowledgeable community with regard to mental health issues, and facilitate students’ connection to the support or treatment they require.
Clinical Training: Provides clinical training to graduate student clinicians regarding clinical service delivery, case management skills and utilization of referral resources. Participates in other activities related to the clinical training programs of the Center, such as trainee selection, presentations, seminars, orientation, supervision and evaluation.
Consultation and Outreach: Provides consultation to members of the AU community, including faculty, staff, parents, and students, regarding the mental health needs of students. Consults with on- and off-campus health care providers to help coordinate care.
Professional Participation: Participates in program development, review and development of policies and procedures, staff meetings and other activities affecting the efficient and effective functioning of the Center. Participates in Center, division, or university committees or task groups. Participates in peer supervision, professional development, or other training to develop and refine professional skills and knowledge.

After-Hours Emergency Coverage: Provides after-hours emergency coverage as required.
