About the role

Overview

The Assistant Director of Social Services at Hampstead Hospital assists the Director in the day-to-day management of the Social Services Department, including hiring, training, supervision, and evaluating staff performance. The role provides regular clinical consultation and/or supervision to all Social Workers and Mental Health Counselors. Acts as department administrator in the absence of the Director of Social Services to ensure timely continuation of services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director of Social Services with providing clinical oversight to the acute inpatient and residential treatment units. Analyzes hospital social work needs and ensures appropriate utilization of social work staff to ensure timely delivery of services.
  • Participates in the development of plans for hospital wide social work services and coverage. Recruits, supervises, evaluates work performance, and conducts disciplinary reviews of Department Personnel. Makes recommendations to the Director on hiring and dismissals and supports on-the-job and continuous training and education initiatives.
  • Serves as an active member of interdisciplinary treatment teams and ensure compliance and adherence to safety, operations and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Provides consultation/supervision of subordinate personnel regarding specific treatment issues, such as appropriate therapeutic interventions for all patient populations and the formulation of developmental and age-specific discharge plans that include assessment of residential needs.
  • Addresses incorrect decisions and mitigates poor judgment calls that can jeopardize patients, service providers, and family members and could significantly impact liability, safety, and quality of life concerns.
  • Provides services to patients and their families and ensures continuity of care during staffing shortages, including case management, psychosocial assessments, aftercare planning, and family services. Attends interagency discharge planning meetings to support more complex clinical cases.
  • Applies a broad range of established advanced therapeutic techniques when observing and conducting individual, group, and family therapy and reviewing diverse cases of varying complexity.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with diverse systems for information exchange, public relations, and system development to enhance communication and strengthen relationships with community partners to ensure a consistent and comprehensive service delivery system.
  • Partnering with hospital leadership to ensure a high standard of patient care. Cultivates a positive work culture that champions open communication and innovative problem-solving.
  • Qualifications

    • Master’s degree from a recognized college or university in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling from an accredited program.• Six years’ of experience in the field of social work, two years of which must have been in an inpatient psychiatric facility or psychiatric residential treatment facility, and four years of which must have been in the area of health care management in a management level position involving administrative or supervisory duties concerned with program administration, program planning, and clinical supervision/evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the graduate level only.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • Must have LICSW or LMHC license.
    • CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)
    • CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire)
