About the role

My client is a well-established nonprofit organization based in the Oceanside area, dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community. They operate with a mission-driven focus and a commitment to their cause. As they continue to grow, they are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager who will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting function.

The Accounting Manager will be the sole accounting professional within the organization, responsible for managing the entire accounting process, including financial reporting, budgeting, and day-to-day accounting tasks. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the executive team and contribute to the financial health and sustainability of the organization. You will play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance in all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the organization's budget and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial, regulatory, and audit requirements.
  • Manage the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and file tax returns, including nonprofit-related filings (Form 990, etc.).
  • Provide financial reports and insights to the executive team and board of directors to support decision-making.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Assist with grant reporting and ensure proper tracking of funds.
  • Ensure the organization’s financial policies and procedures are up to date and followed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit organization.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and compliance (including GAAP and fund accounting).
  • Proficiency in accounting software, QuickBooks experience is preferred.
