Job Summary:
Ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of all HIM and coding department operations. Provides vision, leadership, and operational oversight for all HIM and coding team members in alignment with Adventist Health mission, vision and goals. As a leader of leaders, this individual guidesleader development, maintenance/review/revision of policies and procedures, staffing, quality assessment/ improvement, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies e.g., state, federal and joint commission. Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability of system functions, staff performance and budget for the department which includes onsite and remotely performed functions. Organizes functions through establishing clear accountabilities, delegation of duties and appropriate departmentalization without creating silos. Develops and maintains an effective, visible, and well-respected team by selecting, evaluating, coaching, and managing the performance of qualified professionals. Negotiates and recruits with other department managers the need for cross training and support in their areas, as necessary. Promotes team-building relationships in all areas of responsibility. Works in a collaborative manner with all revenue cycle leaders to ensure a successful and compliant revenue cycle process. Oversees the creation of an a comprehensive and effective communication strategy across all facilities to promotes employee engagement, which includes enhanced employee productivity and morale. Promotes a common understanding of the organizational vision, strategy, and accountabilities. Promotes a culture of two-way communications and creates opportunities for staff participation. Provides staff with regular assessments and educational opportunities. Determines appropriate staffing levels and supports the recruiting and retention process.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/experience: Required
- Master's degree: Preferred
- Ten years' of healthcare operations experience : Preferred
- Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist â€" Physician (CCS â€" P) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS): Required
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA): Required
Essential Functions:
- Guides and directs subordinate directors and managers within HIM and coding. Directs training for directors and managers and oversees the training of area assigned staff. Develops and implements policy and procedure recommendations to meet the needs of the health and hospital system and its patients. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local government, and private industry mandates.
- Ensures staff are aware and compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. Analyzes and identifies HIM and coding needs to determine appropriate action and make recommendations for problem resolution or procedural changes if appropriate. Develops and oversees coding quality review/audit plans.
- Oversees annual budget preparation and then aligns operations for in budget performance. Identifies variances and creates and implements action plans. Prepares annual statement of goals and objectives in collaboration with subordinates and in alignment with Adventist Health overall strategic objectives.
- Identifies issues, risks, barriers, and opportunities for improvement related to set responsibility area. Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes pertinent revenue cycle data components, and monitors performance against Key Performance Indicators.
- Develops professional and technical skill set in subordinate staff and develops ongoing training and education materials for staff and patient education. Supervises, trains, develops, and motivates subordinate staff. Builds employee engagement and satisfaction.
