General Summary:

Unum is seeking an experienced Director of IT Delivery to lead our Colonial Life Products Team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of program and portfolio management, coupled with exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Additionally, you will lead your own delivery team as well as team of people managers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development, manage a portfolio of IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, use SDLC and agile methodologies to streamline project workflows and enhance delivery efficiency and build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executive leadership, to ensure alignment and support for IT initiatives.

This is a hybrid opportunity, combining the benefits of in-office collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. The opportunity involves 3 days in the office and two days remote per week at either our Portland, ME or Chattanooga, TN campus.

Job Specifications

  • Degree in computer science preferred, or relevant technical experience

  • Has 8+ years' experience in an IT field, or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • Prior management experience is preferred

  • Strong preference for development and delivery capabilities supporting CLA IT Products or Enrollment Capabilities

  • Ability to support multi-million-dollar initiative delivery, including rough order of magnitude estimations along with iterative hardening of estimates

  • Ability to present initiative updates to Senior Leadership as well as supporting program updates across a spectrum of leaders

  • Ability to interact with the Program and Project management functions to ensure delivery and financial alignment

  • Ability to interact closely with the Finance and Program Management teams for budget, SOW, and financial tracking

  • Demonstrates leadership in executing IT plans successfully that enable technical or business capabilities and address technology or business priorities

  • Strong understanding of Agile/Lean leadership principles

  • Exhibits courage by taking smart risks and encouraging others to do so; empowers innovative approaches by motivating others to be proactive and resourceful

  • Has proven and demonstrated knowledge and skills in one or more technologies or industries

  • Able to apply broad business and technology understanding of internal and external trends and capabilities, to ensure successful implementation of IT plans.

  • Able to communicate a compelling vision and need for change that generates excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment to the process

  • Demonstrates strategic and critical thinking capability

  • Interacts with others, internally and externally, in a way that gives them confidence in their intentions and those of the organization

  • Understands the business case for each deliverable undertaken and works with their manager and product owner to help ensure benefits are realized

  • Has strong planning, communication and presentation skills, and the capability to listen and influence
